I Stand With Immigrants Day of Action 2023

The UNLV community came together to celebrate "I Stand With Immigrants" Day of Action, empowering the undocumented and immigrant communities on campus and sharing the importance of embracing diversity.

On October 25th, the Undocumented Student Program (USP) at UNLV participated in the "I Stand with Immigrants Day of Action." Alongside over 100 organizations and universities across the United States, faculty and students came together to celebrate the power of immigration.

This event aimed to empower immigrants and their allies by sharing stories and encouraging actions that emphasize the importance of immigration in communities, the economy, and the country as a whole.

Nayelli Rico Lopez, the resource coordinator for USP, highlighted that the Day of Action provided an opportunity for individuals to come together, celebrate their experiences, and show support for one another. She explained it was a day of celebration where students, staff, and faculty could stand with undocumented communities and bring visibility to their support.

The Undocumented Student Program (USP), housed at UNLV's Academic Multicultural Resource Center, plays a crucial role in providing resources and support to undocumented students and mixed-status families. USP also advocates for educational equity and strives to create an inclusive and welcoming environment on campus.

“I Stand with Immigrants was about showing our support to the immigrant and undocumented community and actually spreading the information of all the resources that we have at UNLV,” said Alejandro Rios, USP’s Undergraduate Assistant.

The event served as a platform to provide valuable resources and reinforce the importance of immigration and inclusivity in our communities and on campus. With an attendance of over 60 Students, USP considered this event a success.
